Our Team

Research and Innovation

We consider a shared understanding of the social-environmental system, its dynamics and trajectories as an important basis to negotiate a common vision for the future. Our professors and their teams engage in fundamental and applied research. They are supported by the Transdisciplinary Research Coordinator and collaborate closely with our Regional Hubs. The interdisciplinary teams strive to deliver key insights to policymakers at all levels, closely working with the Global Policy Outreach & Synthesis Center of the Wyss Academy.

Our research currently comprises six fields that are relevant to addressing major challenges identified by the Wyss Academy:

Climate Scenarios for Sustainable Development

Political Economy and Sustainable Development

Land Systems and Sustainability Transformations

Integrative Biodiversity Conservation Science

Environmental Governance and Global Development

Innovative Technology for Nature and People

Interdisciplinary Faculty

Regional Stewardship Hubs

Effective transformation to create sustainability for nature and people must be context specific. We engage directly with civil society, policymakers, and the private sector in our Solutionscapes in multiple regions. The Wyss Academy for Nature is currently active in East Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and Central Europe (in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland).

Policy Outreach & Synthesis

The Wyss Academy’s Global Policy Outreach and Synthesis Center aims to scale what works, to influence and leverage the knowledge generated by our Regional Hubs and research teams at the global policy level. It links the Regional Hubs to global partners, to enhance alliances. Their process involves all relevant stakeholders, from science and government to businesses and local communities. Special attention is given to engaging actors from different levels and ensuring that marginalized groups, interests and topics are heard and included in local and global debates.
