The first Wyss Academy Symposium was an ambitious event that triggered a powerful energy, as it brought together experts from different fields and regions around the world. It was an experiment in which we tried a format that was entirely new. We felt that this proved worthwhile. However, it is also clear that further work will be needed in terms of how we collaborate to produce concrete ideas. We identified several areas in which we might improve future events. In particular:

• A greater involvement of people that live and work in the local landscapes in which we operate could help create a better understanding of our complex challenges.

• Many dialogues would benefit by starting in a regional setting, ensuring that participants with the relevant contextual knowledge are involved. This would likely improve understanding and ensure deeper discussions. They can then be moved to a global setting. 

The Wyss Academy will continue to work on a variety of projects that aim to further break down the silos between disciplines. In 2023, we will integrate the valuable learnings from the first Symposium in conducting the second Wyss Academy Dialogues with Purpose: on the True Value of Forests. It will start with dialogues in the regions in which we currently operate. In 2024, we will bring the dialogue to a global level.
