In 2024, a momentous gathering took place deep in the heart of Peru’s Amazon. Young leaders from Ucayali, San Martín, Amazonas, Loreto, Madre de Dios, and Cusco came together for the 1st Meeting of Youth for the Amazon, an event made possible through the collaboration between LCOY Amazonía and the Wyss Academy for Nature.

This meeting marked an important step forward in strengthening youth engagement across the region. Through dialogue, reflection, and hands-on collaboration, these young voices shaped what would become the Amazonian Youth Declaration and Roadmap. The document outlines their commitment to protecting life, territory, and climate justice, and calls on the government to involve youth in environmental decision-making. It also proposes concrete solutions and urgent actions to address the climate crisis and safeguard the Amazon’s biodiversity.

Grounded in purpose and urgency, these youth are calling for horizontal dialogue, political will, and meaningful participation in the decision-making processes that shape their territories and future.

Their perspectives are already informing the conversation, and they have a clear vision for what comes next.
